Complex water retention facilities construction, transportation and service infrastructure, riverbank green zones, ecological parks and contact recreational zones with a lot of attractions and public services are planned in the integrated project for renovation and sustainable development of Maritsa river within the borders of Plovdiv city. The goals aim at preservation of the ecological balance and prevention from floods, on the other hand - special and functional integration of the river within the structure of the town, comments Dimitar Yazov, president of the business expert council that started the large-scale investment project called Beautiful Maritsa. In the beginning of Jan. the project was approved by representatives of the European Investment Bank and the consultant Deloitte Bulgaria as a pilot project by the European initiative JESSICA. The new financial mechanism will support innovation projects for urban renewal and development with significant social and public impact but with a small return on investments. By the end of the year with the common efforts is to be completed the plan for management of the 10.6 km section of Maritsa river flowing through Plovdiv including five main components.
